JUSTICE Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said he has not received any information yet on the whereabouts of Ronnie Dayan, Senator Leila De Lima's alleged bagman.
In a press conference in the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday, Aguirre said Dayan was supposed to apply for the DOJ's Witness Protection Program (WPP) on Tuesday.
"Dayan is supposed to report today. We are still waiting, I don't know. We have not received any info yet on the whereabouts and status of Dayan," Aguirre said.
Dayan, who is now under the custody of Pangasinan Provincial Command, was arrested on November 22 for snubbing the subpoena issued by the House Justice panel.
Meanwhile, with respect to Eastern Visayas drug trader Kerwin Espinosa's custody, the Secretary of Justice said he is still awaiting the court order allowing his transfer.
Aguirre said the Philippine National Police (PNP) could not release Espinosa unless the lower court in Leyte issues a release transfer order for him to be transferred from PNP to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
According to Aguirre, after the court order is released, that is when the DOJ can process Espinosa's application for WPP and study the affidavit he will execute.
Both Dayan and Espinosa linked De Lima in the illegal drug proliferation in the New Bilibid Prison.
Espinosa told the Senate last week that he gave drug money to Dayan for De Lima's senatorial bid.
Dayan corroborated Espinosa's statement and told the House panel last Thursday that he received money from Espinosa for five times.
He also admitted having an affair with de Lima, which, according to him, lasted for seven years. (Sunnex)
