CONVICTED kidnapper Jaybee Sebastian has been transferred to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Tuesday night due to alleged threats to his life, said Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II.
"Sebastian has been transferred to NBI due to threats to his life," Aguirre told reporters Wednesday.
Sebastian, who was earlier accused of being a bagman of Senator Leila de Lima, is one of the high-profile inmates at the Building 14 of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.
Aguirre tasked Bureau of Corrections (Bucor) Chief Benjamin Delos Santos to probe the supposed "threats" to Sebastian's life. Once proven that Sebastian's claims were not true, the Justice Secretary said, he will immediately order his return to the NBP.
In September, Sebastian was hospitalized after suffering from stab wounds in a prison riot involving eight inmates in the NBP Building 14.
One inmate was killed and three others were injured in the incident.
During a House justice committee hearing last November, Superintendent Francisco Ebreo of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said that inmate Tomas Domiña admitted that he was ordered to kill Sebastian to stop him from testifying on the alleged proliferation of illegal drugs in the state penitentiary.
