DESPITE the atrocities that ensued in Mindanao and other parts of the country allegedly perpetrated by local terrorist groups, Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo remained unfazed that the tourism sector will continue to boom.
"The travel advisories don't affect us anymore because look at Davao City - continuous ang travel advisories natin but we still have tourist coming in. Why people are still interested in Davao?" Teo told VoxPop Davao in a recent interview.
Teo said that tourists from other countries have become more interested visit the country due to the recent international spotlight brought about by the hosting of international events.
She added that it is not only the country that is currently experiencing threat of terrorism but as well as other famous places like Paris and Bali. Nevertheless, tourists have kept on arriving.
United States, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and France have warned their nationals to refrain from traveling to certain parts of the country because of the threats of terrorism.
The DOT secretary assured that the authorities are on top of the situation to ensure the safety and security of domestic and foreign tourists. (JCR)
