DOTr undersecretary quits

TRANSPORTATION Secretary Arthur Tugade has accepted the resignation of Noel Kintanar as undersecretary for rails.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Wednesday in a statement that Kintanar's resignation is effective on November 29.

"Mr. Kintanar said he would like to give Sec. Tugade a free hand in addressing any and all misconceptions or doubts as to the impartiality and independence of the DOTr in addressing the many issues and concerns on transportation," DOTr said.

Some lawmakers have raised concern over DOTr's independence, particularly in awarding huge infrastructure projects.

Kintanar was an executive at Ayala Corporation, which was involved in some of the infrastructure projects of the government under the public-private partnership scheme. (SDR/Sunnex)
