CALBAYOG CITY -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)–Samar First District Engineering Office (SFDEO) has proposed a total of P302,932,000 budget for four tourism-related projects for 2018.
The projects, which will be in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT), aim to fix and construct road infrastructures leading to tourism destination in Samar’s first district.
Under Phase 1, the proposed budget is around P200 million for the improvement and construction of 5.660 kilometers Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) in a circumferential road of Sto. Nino in Samar.
Some P30 million is also allotted for the concreting of 900 linear meters PCCP access road from Barangay Rizal II leading to Mapaso Hotspring, Oquendo District, Calbayog City, Samar.
Another P50 million was proposed for the concreting of 1,450 linear meters PCCP of the access road from Barangay Lungsob leading to Guinogoan Cave, Calbayog City, Samar.
Concreting of a 1,000 linear meters road from Barangay Caglanipao Sur leading to Busay Falls, Barangay Caglanipao, Tinambacan District, Calbayog City, Samar, also needs P22.932 million.
The SFDEO submitted the pertinent documents for the possible approval of the proposed projects by the DOT.
DPWH officials said the approval of the proposed budgets for better roads will help increase the number of domestic and foreign tourists visiting Samar Island.
It will also help the livelihood of the residents in the upland communities who are transporting goods to the urban areas, the DPWH added.
