MORE contrabands, including illegal drugs, were recovered in a greyhound operation at the male dormitory of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City on Friday.
The operation was conducted past 5 a.m. yesterday, where inmates were frisked.
Recovered during the operation inside the cells were three sachets of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride), two improvised tooters, improvised bladed weapons, several cellular phones, and cigarettes.
Inspector Mar Louie Salcedo, spokesperson of BJMP-Negros Island Region, said they initiated the operation after they were informed by Inspector Eduardo Beñares, jail warden of the Metro Bacolod District Jail-Male Dormitory, that there were contrabands, based on their intelligence monitoring.
Salcedo said they also conducted the operation at the Female Dormitory, where pairs of scissors, nail cutters, and other materials used for the inmates’ livelihood projects were recovered inside the cells.
He added that the illegal drugs were reportedly being thrown inside the jail compound by outsiders on board private vehicles, but they have yet to verify this.
With the recovery of more contrabands, Salcedo said the jail warden will strictly monitor the activities inside the dormitory and intensify their security measures.
