PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has appointed actor-turned-politician Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso as a member of North Luzon Railways Board of Directors.
Moreno will serve a one-year term from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018.
A former vice mayor of the city of Manila, Moreno was a losing 2016 senatorial candidate. He ran under Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino, the political party of reelectionist Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada.
Moreno was a guest candidate in the senatorial lineup of presidential candidates, Senator Grace Poe and late senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, who lost to Duterte.
Moreno said he was thankful that Duterte had given him a chance to return in public service after one year of absence from government work.
"I'm honored and grateful to President Duterte for giving me the opportunity to go back to public service," he told Palace reporters in a phone interview.
Apart from Moreno, Duterte's new set of appointees to government posts include Eduardo del Rosario was appointed chairperson of Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, Juan Miguel Cuna as Environment Undersecretary, and Sergio Yap II as Justice Assistance Secretary.
Duterte tapped Franklin Macalisang Quijano as administrator and chief executive officer of Philippine Veterans Investment Development Corporation-Industrial Authority. Quijano was also designated member of Philippine Veterans Investment Development Corporation-Industrial Authority Board of Directors.
Karol Mark Yee was appointed executive director IV of Commission on Higher Education; Othello Dalanon, Bureau of Internal Revenue director I; Virgilio Carreon Jr., Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, director I; Mary Mitzi Uy, executive director V of social department’s Council for the Welfare of Children.
James Layug was tapped as director II of the Bureau of Customs while Isabelo Tibayan III and Omar Tonsay were appointed as directors III of the bureau.
Duterte appointed Edmundo Gammad as member of Department of Transportation’s Civil Aeronautics Board; and Marah Victoria Querol and Rizalina Justol as members of Civil Service Commission’s committee on awards for outstanding public officials and employees.
The President also named Alberto Dalusung III as member of Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Renewable Energy Board; Hilda Ibuyan, member of DOJ Board of Pardons and Parole; Marco Antonio Ho, member of Movie and Television Review and Classification Board; and Chris Millado, member of Film Development Council of the Philippines’ Cinema Evaluation Board.
