PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has appointed actor-turned-politician Jeremy Marquez as the new deputy secretary general of Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).
Marquez, who was appointed on August 10, is the latest member of the entertainment industry to be appointed by Duterte to the government.
Marquez first joined the show business in the early 2000s but later on decided to do away with performing in several local television shows and instead concentrate on public service.
A Political Science graduate from De La Salle University – Dasmariñas, Marquez served as barangay captain in BF Homes in Parañaque City for three terms, starting in 2007.
He also became a member of the Philippine Councilors League and National Movement of Young Legislators.
Marquez joined the 2016 mayoralty race in Parañaque but lost.
Apart from Marquez, Duterte also appointed Presidential Consultant for Education Jose David Lapuz as a member of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's National Commission of the Philippines.
Lapuz, Duterte's former professor who has been criticized for being a self-confessed plagiarizer, was tasked to represent the "educational, scientific and cultural agencies of the government."
The President also tapped Fr. Alexander Balatbat of the Roman Archdiocese of Antipolo as his special envoy for Interfaith Dialogue, with a term of six months.
He also appointed Wilfredo Santos as his special envoy to the inauguration of Iran President Hassan Rouhani, which was held on August 5 in Tehran.
Duterte also named Dimas Soguilon as Public Works Undersecretary while Manuel Antonio Tamayo was designated as Transportation Undersecretary.
He appointed Ahmad Balindong as Hajj Attaché of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.
Florante Igtiben was named as Director IV of National Economic and Development Authority; Maria Theresa Laranang, director IV of Public-Private Partnership Center of the Philippines; Ernesto Macabare, Director II of National Bureau of Investigation; and Alan Borromeo, Director IV of DPWH.
The President named Danilo Bernal Jr. as member of DBP Leasing Corporation’s Board of Directors; Jonathan Avanceña, member of Philippine National Construction Corporation’s Board of Directors; Feliciano Macalino, member of LBP Resources and Development Corporation’s Board of Directors; and Paolo Carlo Lim, member of Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.
Duterte also promoted Panfilo Junior Lovitos and Mariza Jaugan with a rank of Prosecutor III; and Maria Estrella Fulla with a rank of Prosecutor II at the Office of Davao City Prosecutor.
Jose Rex Ortega now has a rank of Prosecutor III while Joji Cabading gets a rank of Prosecutor II at the Office of Dipolog City Prosecutor.
Duterte named Oliver Saniel as Prosecutor IV of Office of Mati City Prosecutor; Ruby Malanog, Prosecutor III of Office of Cagayan de Oro City Prosecutor; Elizabeth Lim, Prosecutor III of Office of Manila City Prosecutor; Aldrin Evangelista, Prosecutor IV of Malolos City Prosecutor; and Alexander Suarez, Prosecutor III of National Prosecution Service.
