PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte joined the call for the postponement of barangay election fearing that drug money will be used during campaign period by narco-politicians.
"Because if you hold the elections now, drug money is still going around and most of the barangay captains are really into it. They would just stay in power and this time, they have the money and they will win," Duterte said during the presentation of the released Norwegian kidnap victim Sunday, September 18 at Matina Enclaves, Davao City.
The President said that there would be drug proliferation in the lowest government unit, which is barangay, he said that this would be the start of "perdition and agony" in the country.
"Di pwedeng mag election ngayon, maraming talaga [drugs] and I never realized it," Duterte said.
Duterte also would not allow the policeman to act as a bodyguard of the barangay captains if election will push through.
Duterte warned those who are into illegal drugs not to run for a barangay position if they do not want to die.
"If you think you are afraid of being killed, if you are there in rural areas with the NPAs, then do not run for public office and find another occupation. Because from the looks of it, it's the government already doing the operation of the illegal drugs," Duterte said.
With the worsening proliferation of illegal drugs that involves barangay officials, Duterte demanded for a six-month extension to suppress drugs in the country and put the nation in order.
"Nobody ever knew I did not have that idea that there was hundreds of thousands of people already in the drug business and what makes it worse is that they are operated now by people in government," Duterte said.
Duterte said that it would be "government versus government" fight, considering the number of officials linked in narco trade.
Duterte said that he will reveal another list of drug personalities who are involved in illegal drugs, which include barangay captains.
