PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday went to Camarines Sur after Typhoon Nina wreaked havoc in the province on the night of Christmas on Sunday.
In his speech delivered before the typhoon victims in Pili, Camarines Sur, Duterte said the government had donated corn and rice seeds, and cash aid worth P50 million to P100 million for their immediate recovery.
“I’d like to assure you that we are here to help. Nothing more,” the President said.
“Let’s not wait and wallow in self-pity. We have to go to normal state soon. We return to normalcy ASAP, as soon as possible,” he added.
On Monday, the provincial government of Camarines Sur declared a state of calamity due to the effects of the typhoon on the province.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that there were 20,290 families or 101,450 people affected by Nina in 22 municipalities in Camarines Sur.
Duterte vowed that his administration would do its best to make sure that the victims of the typhoon would immediately go back to their normal lives.
“The thing is after whatever it is – catastrophe, war, fire, calamity – [our goal] is really to go back immediately to the normal ways.” (Sunnex)
