PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte ordered Saturday, October 29, the dismantling of all the "nuisance" police and military checkpoints all over the country.
During his speech at the Launching of the Comprehensive Reform and Development Agenda for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) in Cotabato City, the President said that checkpoints must only be installed when necessary as it is causing confusion to the public.
"Only if necessary, only if there is specific reason for it. I am ordering all checkpoints dismantled... Kung walang purpose, wag ka na mag-checkpoint, pangpagulo lang ng buhay ng Pilipino," he said.
According to Duterte, some people were affected by the checkpoints being placed by the military, Moro Islamic Liberation Front, Moro National Liberation Front and the New People’s Army.
He added that some people would refuse to travel and just stay home to avoid the nuisance checkpoints.
Duterte reiterated that security checkpoints should only be installed whenever the military and police authorities have received intelligence reports on where their target would pass.
Last September, checkpoints have been installed throughout the country after the president's proclamation of state of national emergency on account of lawless violence in Mindanao in the light of the September 2 Roxas Night Market bombing that killed 14 and injured more than 70 people in Davao City.
