PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has described former President Fidel Ramos as his "number one critic" and at the same time supporter.
The two leaders saw each other again at the San Beda Law Grand Alumni Homecoming held in Taguig City on Saturday night.
The meeting came after Ramos again criticized Duterte for allowing the burial of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani and for the President's failure to attend some of the activities in the recently concluded Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders' Meeting in Lima, Peru.
"Former President Fidel Ramos, my number one critic and number one supporter and that is good. You know, decent and criticism would make this democratic country healthy," Duterte said in a speech.
Previously, Ramos also hit Duterte on his performance for the first 100 days in office.
In his column in Manila Bulletin, he said the Philippines was "losing badly"on the first 100 days of the Duterte administration for not presenting long-term strategic vision.
The former President also criticized Duterte for his refusal to approve the Paris Agreement on climate change. But later, Duterte said he would support the deal after most of his Cabinet members approved it.
After the initial criticisms, Duterte met Ramos in Malacañang.
Ramos was one among those who encouraged Duterte to run in the May elections. (SDR/Sunnex)
