Duterte reappoints Gina Lopez as DENR chief

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte said Monday that he had reappointed Environment Secretary Gina Lopez after she was reportedly excluded from the roster of appointed Cabinet officials submitted to the Commission on Appointments (CA) for confirmation.

At the launch of the 135 MW Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion (CFBC) Powerplant, Duterte said that he appointed Lopez anew because she has the qualities of being “very strict” and “not corrupt.”

Duterte also believed that Lopez would be instrument to keep the country away from “every predator [of] all sorts.”

“I reappointed her (Lopez) because she was bypassed [at the CA],” the President said.

“I like her and she’s okay, very strict, I like that. She’s not corrupt, I like that. She cannot be corrupted, I also like that. Why? I want my country also at least relatively safe from every predator [of] all sorts,” he added.

Lopez was among the Cabinet members that the CA bypassed last October, after Congress adjourned session and went on recess. (Sunnex)
