PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Monday reiterated his pledge to kill people who will cause harm to the young generation.
Speaking before members of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Duterte told the audience, including the young scouts belonging to age group four to seven years old, that he would protect the youth from any danger that the country’s problems would bring.
Keen that most participants are children, Duterte refrained from delivering his usual expletive-laced speeches and said that he would not utter “bad words” but only the marching order to kill a person.
“We protect you from the scourge of drugs. We protect you from exploitation. And we say, I say now, I am infuriated, I will kill people if you harm the youth [who will be] the next Mayor President tomorrow,” the President said, drawing loud applause from the crowd.
“Now, starting today, I will guard you. I have really become protective. And as they say, I kill a person. I really kill if you harm our children,” he added.
Duterte said that as the highest elected official in the land, he is mandated to “preserve and protect the Filipino people.”
On the sidelines of the event, 13-year-old Nicholle of Silang, Cavite sees nothing wrong with the President’s pronouncement to kill.
Nicholle believed that Duterte only wants to free the country from dangers.
“That’s okay with me because that’s wrong to ruin the life of a person,” she said.
Duterte, who promised that the Filipino people will be safe and secured, also told the young scouts to be proactive and join the government in eradicating the problems in the country by joining the military when they grow up. (VoxPop Philippines)
