PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Friday said that the Philippines will remain a “friend” and an “ally” of the United States.
This was what Duterte had to say in a press conference in Davao City, when asked how would be the relationship of the Philippines with its long-time ally, the US, now that America has Donald Trump as its new President-elect.
Duterte maintained the Philippines will continue to honor the existing agreement with the US.
“As is. We are friend with an ally,” Duterte said, describing how his administration’s relationship could be under the Trump administration.
“I do not foresee any war in the next 100 years. So we will maintain our cooperation [with the United States],” he added.
Before Trump’s victory, Duterte had repeatedly lambasted the United States for the supposed slanted gains it gets from its ties with the Philippines, as well as the historic aches it caused to the Moro people.
But Duterte is now tossing away his profanity-laced rants against the US and now seeks an “enhanced ties” with America. (Sunnex)
