THE Regional Prosecutors Office Davao Region urged all its prosecutors and employees to participate on the regional essay writing contest of the Department of Justice (DOJ) in their “End Violence Against Women (VAW)” campaign.
With the theme: "A Vaw-Free Community is a Justice-Inspired Society," the DOJ has directed the RPO-Davao to hold a regional essay writing contest in observance of the 18-day campaign to End Violence Against Women starting this month.
The essay contest is also open to National Prosecution Service (NPS) 11 prosecutors and support staff, including those DOJ contractual employees.
RPO-Davao director lawyer Janet Grace Dalisay-Fabrero, in a memorandum, said the contest is an opportunity for the prosecutors and the staff here to gauge their talent in writing and for them to be given national recognition, as well.
"As per communication by Assistant Secretary Cheryl Daytec, chiefs of offices are eligible and are encouraged to join. But the local government unit (LGU) employees detailed to prosecution offices are not eligible to join," Fabrero said.
To ensure the active participation of the region on the DOJ-initiated contest, RPO-Davao instructed each prosecution office to submit at least two entries to their office on or before March 2.
All entries must be original and not have been previously published. It should also be written in English and must have at least 3,000 words, but must not exceed 4,500 words.
The criteria for judging shall be 35 percent for relevance to the theme, 30 percent for originality, 20 percent for structure and 15 percent for style.
Winners shall be announced at the NPS 11 Group Page on March 9 and shall receive P1,000 for the third place, P2,000 for the second and P3,000 for the first.
The soft copy of the entry that won first place in the regional contest shall be sent to the DOJ proper on or before March 15 as the region’s entry in the nation-wide essay writing contest. Hard copy must be submitted on March 20.
Authors of the three best compositions in the nation-wide contest shall receive P5,000 for the first place, P7,000 for the second place, and P10,000 for the first place.
The 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) is observed annually to raise awareness among all stakeholders that VAW is a public issue of national concern. (ICT/VoxPop Davao)
