I HAVE always longed to see the vestiges of Vigan and witness how its wealth of heritage continues to attract tourists.
My Ph. D. English doctoral course, “New Englishes of the World,” would have gone to Singapore-Malaysia, but a few couldn’t get their passports on time. So, we opted to go to Vigan on Sept. 28-Oct. 1. Unfortunately, I missed the trip due to family priorities but my students had a wonderful time.
This culminating activity of the course served as an interactive learning experience and cross-cultural as well as linguistic immersion.
The class was composed of students all over the Philippines, including some Commission on Higher Education scholars: Marice Estaca, Carmelyn Mosa, Francis Mervin Agdana, Evalyn Pedrosa, Analiza Quimpan, Catalina Maghamil, Nathaniel Bryan Fiel, Julienne Marie Somosot, Maria Lucille Dollado, Edna dela Serna, Maileen Palomeras, Miriam Cabrito, Quindhe Banquiao, Ivy Aboy, Mark Herman Potoy, Teresa Alas, Jovelyn Cantina, Archer Campoy, Alberto Labrador, Jett Quebec, Eleanor Narboada, Virginia de Gracia, Eda Opina, Christina Bautista, Rowena Decena, Kriscente Barcelona, Violeta Felisilda, Merril Chavez, Vanessa Cardinales, Emily Cerbito, Enrique Taraqua, Leizl May Tortogo, Rosia Caraballe and Ivy Lagarge. Other members of the class opted to stay in Cebu for a separate culminating activity.
