Estremera: A time to ponder

Published on

PONDERING, meditating, ruminating, different means to achieve clarity. There is no better time to do it than now. For before us are events that seem to move on its own, have wings of its own, and taking shape by itself.

It's a fascinating scene that we can run over and over in our minds when we ponder on destiny and realize that yes, there is such a word and it becomes.

It's times like this when sitting down and just pondering works best. You take out bits and pieces of what has come to pass and then you fit them all together in what you have long known, what you have been told, and what others are saying, juxtapose these with Bible verses and philosophical dissertations, and then bring in your most tools for clarity, like books designed for such, for you to move on forward.

In my case, it's a book of snippets of wisdom from book author Richard Bach compiled in a tiny book entitled, ""Messiah's Handbook: Reminders for the Advanced Soul".

This book is supposed to be your tool to help put things in a better perspective, and it has been very useful to me, several years since I have bought it. Last Saturday, it opened to the page that read: "Not being known doesn't stop the truth from being true."

There sure are tons of untruths being made known to all of us through the boob tubes, spun for us by a senator and attested to by two witnesses whose stories clash at each other.

It was fun when that dance instructor popped up on Facebook complete with a photo of him with the presidential sister, saying, "I'm alive!" Of course, we knew all along that we were being spun tons and tons of lies, their clashing versions just underline this.

But, the image of a person who has lived quietly and earned through dancing suddenly dragged into the limelight, kicking and screaming, saying, "I'm alive!" is hilarious at the same time... infuriating.

We know that Senate hearings have long been turned into a circus of sorts. It's just infuriating that they are still at it... until today.

"You are free to smile in the midst of massive tests and challenges, knowing that you have chosen to play this game, and that you have dominion over all the appearances of earth," thus reads the facing page of the tiny book.

Thus, I smile, just as the President is smiling... and smirking. It can be tiring, sometimes, when your pondering brings you to the fact that we have had only nine months of the presidency.

With criminal syndicates and big-time miners being threatened, the kitty for the President's ouster must be running into billions now. We can't help but wonder, what's God's plan in all this?

Everything's a blur, no make that a blot. And yet, everything's moving like clockwork. Lies are exposed, by real people. A priest breaks his vow to keep confessions a secret and spills the bean to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, or so it seems, as Trillanes, himself, said. But then, that's Trillanes, he tends to say a lot, truths and untruths interwoven into a life of its own.

Everything is on shaky grounds, the priest should be defrocked if things were played on an even field. But then we all know on who's side the Catholic bishops are on, and we wonder why.

There are obviously camps who still think that they can continue as they have always done. These same camps do not seem to realize that the rules of the game have changed since Duterte, the long-time mayor of a southern city who was already pondering on retirement, has instead become the President amid the cheers of fist-pumping of the masses.

“The breath of God’s life sets us free from the asphyxia that so often we fail to notice or become so used to that it seems normal, even when its effects are felt,” Pope Francis said in his Lenten message last month. In the meantime, we asphyxiate.
