THE CITY Government of Baguio is set to evict vendors at the public market who have subleased their stalls.
City Councilor Leandro Yangot, Jr., committee on market chairperson said the Baguio City Market Authority (BCMA) is set to implement stricter rules on subleasing stalls while appropriate measures and cancellation of contracts are in order for the benefit of individuals who follow the provisions of their contract.
Investigations reveal stallholders pay the City Government more or less P300 in monthly rentals but when subleased to willing individuals, the sub-lessees pay to the awardee at least P10,000 to 25,000 monthly.
Under the market ordinance, the City Government is empowered to cancel the award of the stallholder who will be found to have subleased his or her awarded stall.
Vacated stalls will be subsequently subjected to public bidding wherein the person with the highest bid price based on the ceiling pegged by the city will be awarded the stall. For those that were vacated by delinquent stallholders, the minimum bid of interested individuals will be the accumulated unpaid rentals, including surcharges and interests.
BCMA directed concerned offices of the city government to conduct the required investigation on alleged massive sub-leasing in the public market so those stallholders who are found to have sub-leased their stalls will be acted upon including cancellation of their respective awards.
“We have a policy that if you are not the seller who was not given a stall in the market then you do not have any right to sell,” Yangot said.
“If you are selling without any right then the stalls must be awarded to other sellers who are interested.”
