SAN SIMON -- Former mayor Rodrigo Canlas has donated air-conditioning units to eight day care centers in this town on Friday, saying the children are the future and investing in them is "for the betterment of the future."
The eight day care centers that received the units Friday are those of Barangays Concepcion, Sta. Cruz, San Miguel, San Juan, Sta. Monica, San Isidro, San Pablo Libutad and Dela Paz. They received one air-conditioning unit each.
Canlas said the donation aims to improve the learning environment of students, especially that day care centers are considered the first step to children's proper education.
He said all school institutions, especially public, must be conducive for learning to encourage more children to attend school.
"Kailangan maganda dahil ito ang nagiging pangalawang bahay ng mga bata. At kung nakikita nila na maganda at malinis, hindi nila gugustuhin pang mag-absent, ibig sabihin araw-araw silang matututo," he said.
Canlas said the donation is part of his continuous public service to Simonians even without a government position.
"Ang puso ko ay nasa mga kabalen at gusto kong makatulong sa abot ng aking makakaya, may posisyon man o wala," he said.
Canlas, meanwhile, asked the teachers and instructors to take care of the air-conditioning units so they can benefit more children.
