FORMER Pampanga board member Mike Tapang is endorsing anew the proposed construction of a toll road on the west lateral portion of the FVR Megadike in Porac town that will serve as an alternative route.
The former councilor and president of the Philippine Councilors’ League-Pampanga Chapter has asked the Provincial Board for a resolution regarding the dike toll road.
Under Tapang’s proposal, the dike toll road will traverse some 10 kilometers in Porac, two kilometers in Sta. Rita town and four kilometers in Bacolor.
The purpose of the project is to become an alternative route for commercial vehicles, particularly quarry trucks, and private vehicles, which traverse the area going to Manila.
The route is also seen to connect the third district of Pampanga with the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) through the Porac Interchange in Barangay Cangatba here.
Tapang said that the starting point of the 16-kilometer proposed toll road is in Cangatba village, Porac, and can then be connected to the SCTEX.
He added that the local government believes that the annual repair and rehabilitation of the municipal roads prove to be ineffective, costly and temporary due to the bulk of truckers at MacArthur Highway.
Tapang said reviving the proposal will put an end to the illegal pass-way fees being collected from sand haulers passing along the dike and other areas in Pampanga and Angeles City.
The proposal, he said, would only entail minimal cost to the government, with the recommendation of a project development under a build-operate-transfer scheme under the private-public partnership for infrastructure projects.
