HEAVY traffic will be experienced on Ouano Avenue in Mandaue City, particularly on the side for vehicles coming from Cebu City, as the road concreting in the area will start Tuesday, February 27.
Glenn Antigua, chief for operations of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue, said the road from Mahiga Creek up to a Shell gasoline station, which is the first phase of the road concreting project, will be closed at 7 a.m.
As early as 5 a.m., the contractor will start to mobilize their heavy equipment on the said portion of Ouano Avenue.
The right-most lane will be opened for light vehicles while heavy vehicles will be directed to pass Zuellig Avenue.
Antigua said that Team already informed owners of cargo trucks and the establishments along Ouano Ave. in the past few weeks about the road concreting project. He also asked motorists to avoid the road for the meantime, so they will not be stalled in traffic.
“Atong hangyo sa mga motorists nga way tuyo sa Ouano Ave. likayan na lang ang pag-agi diha dapita (We appeal to motorists to stay away from Ouano Ave. if they have nothing to do there),” said Antigua.
Drivers can use Mantawi Drive, Logarta St., Lopez Jaena St., A. S. Fortuna St. and M.L. Quezon Highway to travel to and from Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu and northern Cebu’s cities and towns.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) allocated P223.707 million for the redevelopment of Ouano Avenue.
There will be six phases for the road rehabilitation project of the DPWH, which will take about a year.
Ouano Ave. stretches for 1.9 kilometers, Antigua said. The first phase is just under 590 meters long. Among the establishments along the project site are an entertainment complex, warehouses, container yards, and offices of some logistics companies.
Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing earlier said the first phase will take about three months. Although Mandaue had received a growing number of complaints about the potholes on Ouano Ave., the City couldn’t act on its own because the road belongs to the national government and is maintained by DPWH.(FMG/VoxPop Cebu)
