A RESIDENT of Dos Hermanas village in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, who pretended to be a police officer was charged before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office on November 2.

Sundar Guzman, 42, faced charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act in relation to Article 177 (usurpation of authority) and Article 179 (illegal use of uniforms) of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines.

On October 30, Guzman was arrested at Moncal gymnasium in Capitan Sabi Extension, Barangay Zone 12 after personnel of Talisay City Police Station received a report from a concerned citizen that a “police officer” who was wearing a general office attire (GOA) Type “C” uniform with a .45 caliber pistol was inside the gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.

Guzman told the authorities that he is assigned at the Intelligence Division of Police Regional Office-Western Visayas in Iloilo City.

Upon verification, it was found out that Guzman is not a member of the Philippine National Police.

The suspect yielded an Armscor .45 caliber pistol, a magazine of the same firearm loaded with nine live ammunition, and a type “C” GOA police uniform.

Guzman is detained at the station’s custodial facility.
