THE fate of 10 sports in the Batang Pinoy 2016 National Championships will be known on Friday, November 4, after the National Secretariat issued an advisory Wednesday for local government units (LGUs) not to purchase plane or bus tickets for delegates in these events until further notice.
Reason cited was low turnout of participants in archery, cycling, gymnastics, judo, pencak silat, rugby football, triathlon, weightlifting, wrestling, and wushu.
Sports Development Division (SDD)-City Mayor's Office (CMO) staff Pocholo "Cholo" Elegino, during Thursday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the NCCC Mall Food Cove Function Hall, said some LGUs may have failed to submit their entries on time.
"But that does not mean na scrap na sila, let's wait until November 4, tomorrow, for further update based on what the advisory said," Elegino said .
Elegino, who represented SDD-CMO chief Mikey Aportadera, also said the rest of the sports except wushu and gymnastics will still be included in the roster of Batang Pinoy events.
Wushu and gymnastics will be held in Manila sometime next month.
Elegino also assured that coaches and athletes of the 10 sports mentioned in the advisory were already informed.
The 465-member Davao City delegation will leave on November 26.
The opening ceremonies is set on November 27 and the games will end on December 2.
