A JAPANESE company has partnered with the Provincial Government of South Cotabato to build a $5-million processing facility for pineapple wastes to be turned into organic fertilizer and animal feeds.
This was bared in the Department of Agriculture (DA) website. Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol met with Sagana Japan Co., Ltd. President Chiaki Kushida who explained the advantages of processing pineapple stacks into organic fertilizer and animal feeds during a dialogue at the DA Central Office in Quezon City last November 28.
According to Kushida, Sagana will collect pineapple stacks from the local farmers and process these into organic fertilizer and animal feeds for free.
The processed fertilizers will be distributed to farmers’ cooperatives and plantation owners as additional inputs for their production. Sagana, through an agreement with the South Cotabato Provincial Government, plans to establish 16 facilities all across Mindanao, but will initially build the $5-million worth processing facility in Tupi.
