THERE have been fewer road incidents during the 2018 New Year's Day celebration compared to last year's, an official said.
City Transportation Office (CCTO) operations chief Francisco Ouano told VoxPop Cebu that these were all minor road mishaps that involved public vehicles and some trucks.
He added that from around 40 road mishaps in 2017, only 18 accidents attributed to overspeeding were recorded last Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
There were no reported injuries or casualties. Ouano said the motorists involved were found to have been driving over the speed limit.
CCTO also recorded at least 26 vehicular accidents during Christmas Day.
"Although there were still few accidents, were happy that our motorists heeded our advise on driving safely. It's not about how fast we get to our homes for the holidays. What matters is we get home to our families safely," Ouano said.
Meanwhile, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office chief Nagiel Bañacia said there were no reports of firecracker-related injuries during the New Year's Eve celebration.
The city welcomed the New Year in a "very peaceful" manner, he said.
