WE WERE on a hunt for a place to eat, chill and do some work one weekend and so we headed up north of Davao City to try out this unique travel-themed café.
Jeep ride took a couple of minutes (ugh traffic is real people!), it was already past lunch time and we have finally arrived in Cabantian where the café was located.
Snapshot perfect
The owners, according to one of the staff, love to travel around the world thus the name and the theme of the café.
It has also been decorated that way which are picture and selfie perfect. We took the waiting time for our food as an opportunity to take tons of photos of the place.
Delish selections
Gypsy Café also has a lot of food selections from café drinks, light snacks or heavy lunch and dinner-they have it all.
My friend ordered the Filipino Bibimbap (P180) which we found unique while I ordered their Baby Back Ribs (P260) which they said is one of the best sellers. We also got Buffalo Wings (P180) to share.
Also, later that day, we saw a group of friends ordered some nachos and ice cream and they were in huge serving (no kidding) but we were so full already. Maybe when we get back!
The Vibe
Because of the distance of the café from the heart of the city, the place is pretty chill especially during the morning and afternoon. It is really a perfect place to be if you want to stay away from people or concentrate in studying or weekend work. But it may be crowded at night though as they also have some live bands playing at some part of the week.
I really love the interiors of the place, though I haven’t been to the previous restaurant who managed the place before Gypsy Café took over it.
It’s a loft-type resto and they also have some sections at the loft part where you can have meetings or bond with friends and family.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a new place to have good food away from the busy downtown then this is the perfect place for you. You can study and do work here all day if you want but I suggest you should bring your own pocket wifi because the connection isn’t that reliable as per experience there. For the food, it may be a little pricey but I promise you that it’s really worth it as they offer generous servings and of course, it tastes good!
With the food, the vibe and their very accommodating staff, I give this place a two thumbs-up!
Gypsy Café is located at Door 1&2 Orange tree Building along Cabantian Road. They are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays to Wednesdays, 9 a.m. – 11 p.m. from Thursdays to Saturdays and 9 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. on Sundays.
