FORMER Baguio City Mayor Jaime Bugnosen silently died on Tuesday night at the Baguio General Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
He turned 91 at the hospital over the weekend while confined and hoping for recovery of a lingering illness.
Bugnosen started as a security guard before he became city councilor, authoring the No Smoking Ordinance, then climbed his way up to become vice mayor before he was elected city mayor.
His work was pivotal in the rising of the city after the devastating 1990 killer earthquake, which almost flattened Baguio City as he stood as mayor from 1989 to 1992.
Bugnosen is remembered to be a community leader and public servant and was hailed to be among the outstanding citizens of the city.
After serving the government, Bugnosen served as a trustee of the Blessed Association of Retired Persons and has been serving the city through government and civic organizations for the entirety of his life.
Bugnosen lies in state at the family residence at #27 Sta. Escolastica Village Baguio City.
