ALL the effort paid off for Games Amusement Board (GAB) of the Philippines after it was chosen as the Commission of the Year during the 55th World Boxing Council (WBC) Convention held at Baku, Azerbaijan.

“This is a recognition of all the hardwork and dedication of the board in improving boxing in the Philippines,” said Chairman Abraham Mitra.

“The WBC is the oldest and most prestigious boxing organization in the world with numerous member-countries. It is indeed a great honor for GAB and the Philippines to receive this citation and award,” he added.

Mitra further said that the innovations that GAB instituted through transparency, participation, and love for boxing were recognized.

It was recalled that the GAB-Department of Health Medical Licensing Assistance Program was lauded when it was presented by Mitra during the executive meeting with the WBC Board of Governors.

As a result, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman requested a copy of the memorandum of agreement and its internal rules as he urged other developed countries to follow what the Philippines has done.

Also present during the event were former GAB chairman Juan Ramon Guanzon, WBC Medical Committee vice chair Dr. Nasser Cruz, Philippines' Premier Promoters’ Johnny and Liza Elorde, WBC Supreme Council members, vice presidents, board of governors, and promoters-managers from all over the world.
