A WOMEN rights group is asking the policemen to solve the case of a 19-year-old college student, who was robbed then killed by an unidentified man in Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City.
Gabriela Negros is calling for justice over the death of Melcah Melgar, a sophomore student of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College Alijis campus.
Clarissa Dagatan, chairperson of Gabriela Negros, said over ABS-CBN Bacolod that the police should resolve Melgar's case to give justice to her family and loved ones.
Dagatan said police should not leave the case hanging despite their difficulty to identify the suspect.
"This case should not be one of those cases that remain unsolved," she added.
Dagatan said the suspect should be arrested and made to pay for the crime he committed.
Melgar's family is also appealing the same to the authorities.
On Wednesday, Melgar's body was found by her parents in a sugarcane field.
Based on her autopsy results, Melgar died after her head was hit by a hard object twice.
Chief Inspector Charles Gever, head of Police Station 7, had earlier said they are in ‘full force’ to hasten the conduct of the investigation with the help of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
Police already have a lead on the identity of the suspect but they are still gathering evidence.
Meanwhile, the CHMSC has extended assistance to the victim's family.
Found dead
In another development, a man was found dead in a secluded area at Sitio Pulakpulakan, Barangay Cabia-an in Candoni, Negros Occidental last Friday.
Inspector Jaynick Bermudez, chief of Candoni Municipal Police Station, identified the fatality as Rogelio Pacunla, 46.
Bermudez said Pacunla was found at a ravine, about 1.5 kilometers from the barangay proper at about 5 p.m. He sustained a lone gunshot wound.
Initial investigation showed the victim was riding his motorcycle on his way to the barangay proper at about 6 a.m. when he was waylaid and gunned down by an unidentified man.
Bermudez said they already have a lead on the suspect's identity but they could not yet divulge the details. GYM
