Get Into Rugby gab opens in Davao Saturday

THE Philippine Rugby Football Union (PRFU) will hold its annual Philippine National Get Into Rugby Conference that will kick off Saturday, June 11, at the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) in Matina, Davao City.

PRFU regional development officer Blessie Kate delos Santos, who was a guest in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center Lanes, said the three-day event will jumpstart with the launching of Davao City Asia 1 Million Training of Trainers- Get Into Rugby (GIR) that will be participated in by Department of Education (DepEd) Davao City Division Physical Education (P.E.) teachers.

"We want to take this opportunity to introduce the sport to Deped accredited schools since rugby football will be included as a demo sport in the upcoming 2017 DCAA (Davao City Athletic Association)," Delos Santos said.

The Asia 1 Million GIR activity will be facilitated by delos Santos herself along with PRFU GIR ruby national manager Rose Lanticse, Melissa Ann Jalandoni, Michelle Mari Mercado, Hilton Soberano and LeAllen Lara. PRFU Luzon and Visayas development officers will assist them.

The World Rugby Level 1 Ruby 7s Coaching Course and Match Official Course will also highlight the conference with World Rugby Trainer Matt Cullen and World Rugby educator Ada Milby, sister of famous Filipino-American actor Sam Milby, as resource speakers.

Different colleges and universities in Mindanao will send representatives to the coaching and matching course including Caraga State University, Mindanao State University (MSU) Marawi, MSU Gensan, and University of Southern Mindanao (USM) Kabacan, among others, as endorsed by the Philippine Sports Institute (PSI).

Delos Santos also bared that the PSI will subsidize the participants' travel expenses while their accommodations and meals will be shouldered by the PRFU.
