THE Zamboanga City local government through the City Agriculturist’s Office has turned over farm tools and implements to local farmers engaged in ginger production and by-product processing.
City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat said the farmer-recipients of the farm tools and implements distributed on Thursday, September 15, consist of the second batch of beneficiaries of the ginger production and by-product processing project under the Bottom-up Budgeting (BUB) initiative.
The first batch of beneficiaries, who received last month farm tools and implements, are the group of farmers engaged in ginger production and by-product processing in the village of Victoria, Zamboanga city.
Palacat said the set of farm inputs the farmers from Bunguiao village have received composed of 66 sacks of vermicast (organic fertilizer), 64 pieces garden hoe, 64 pieces garden rake, 67 pieces sprinkler, one 16-liter knapsack sprayer, a weighing scale, and five of 200-liter plastic drums.
The farm inputs that were turned over forms part of the local government unit’s counterpart in the project, which is being spearheaded in tandem with the Department of Agriculture, based on the proposal of the farmers-beneficiaries.
The project, as BUB initiative, was proposed by the farmers of Bunguiao, which was submitted for approval to the local and National Government.
Under the BUB approach, Palacat said subsidy is provided to each village to be used for the implementation of one to two projects which they themselves have identified.
The BUB is a program expected to aid village in better formulating poverty reduction action plans and monitoring the delivery of basic services in the communities, and to institutionalize people’s participation in the budget process.
