WITH an advocacy of empowering young women through sports, Girls Got Game (GGG) Mindanao, a non-profit organization, will hold its first official sports camp for girls 12 years old and below on May 12 to 14 at the University of the Philippines (UP)-Mindanao in Mintal, Davao City.
GGG managing directors Celina Simone Jaldon and Paolo Salvador bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at the NCCC Mall B3 Family Room on Thursday, May 4.
"We would want to introduce sports to the young women in our chosen community which is one of our ways to keep them in school," Jaldon said.
Established on 2015, GGG-Manila visited Davao City on September 17 and conducted a free-registration camp that gathered a total of 115 girls from around Mindanao.
On March 25, GGG-Mindano held a camp for girls in Mintal Elementary School and those from within the area.
The upcoming sports camp expects over 100 participants mostly coming from Gawad Kalinga and Los Amigos communities.
The young women will experience various sports including basketball, football and rugby football.
"Apart from the sports, we would also want to imply values and respect," Jaldon said.
GGG is also calling out for volunteer coaches and team captains who would guide the young aspiring athletes in the three-day long camp.
"As long as they love kids, even if they are not professionals," Jaldon said, adding that participants will be provided with free breakfast, lunch and dinner and shirts during the camp sponsored by Milo.
