CHIEF Superintendent Edmund Gonzales, head of Maritime Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has been appointed acting director of Police Regional Office in Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) effective May 19.
Gonzales will succeed Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, who will retire from the police service on May 21 at 55 years old, the mandatory retirement age in the PNP.
The retirement honors and turn-over ceremony to be led by PNP chief Ronald de la Rosa will also be held on May 19 at the Sugarland Hotel in Bacolod City.
Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, public information officer of PRO-NIR, said Friday, May 12 that they received the order on the change of command from the national headquarters on Thursday.
Vargas said Gonzales is from Iloilo City and a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1986.
Gonzales will be the third PRO-NIR director since the regional office was organized in November 2015.
Gumban succeeded Conrado Capa, who retired in August 2016 after serving as the first director of PRO-NIR.
Vargas said Gonzales is also set to retire from the police service next year.
Replacing Gonzales as chief of PNP Maritime Group effective May 19 is Chief Superintendent Marcelo Morales.
