OVER a hundred families have been moved to higher ground in the cities of Valenzuela and Malabon after persistent heavy rains due to southwest monsoon enhanced by Severe Tropical Storm Gorio (international name: Nesat) caused flooding, the state disaster agency said Friday.
In a report released Friday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 183 families from a barangay in Malabon City and seven barangays in Valenzuela City are temporarily being served in eight evacuations centers.
It said two barangays in the municipality of Balagtas while four villages in Marilao, both in Bulacan, are still experiencing flooding.
The NDRRMC said 60 areas in the Metro Manila remain flooded.
It said the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has prepared P1,722,660,284.27 worth of stockpiles and standby funds.
It said 12,837 food packs containing rice, cans of sardines, corned beef and coffee and non-food items were prepositioned for the affected population.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said as of 10 a.m. "Gorio" was spotted 360 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes packed with maximum winds of 105 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 130 kilometers per hour.
It said it is forecast to move northwest at 15 kph and is expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday morning.
Pagasa said moderate to heavy rainfall within the 550-kilometer diameter of the weather disturbance. (VoxPop Philippines)
