'Gorio' maintains strength; Batanes still under signal number 1

THE province of Batanes remained under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) number 1 as Severe Tropical Storm "Gorio" maintained its strength, the weather state bureau said on Thursday evening, July 27.

In its 11 p.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the storm is located at 555km east of Tugegarao City, Cagayan, packing maximum sustained winds of 90 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 115kph.


Pagasa said Gorio will move northwest at 13kph, adding that the current weather condition will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon, which will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over the western section of Luzon including Metro Manila and light to moderate rains over the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

Pagasa said that Gorio may exit the Philippine areas of responsibility on Monday evening, July 31. (VoxPop Philippines)
