BARANGAY Granada marked its 116th Charter anniversary celebration on April 1 to 7, where residents and local tourists witnessed and enjoyed the colorful events through the staging of the Pasigabong Festival.
“This is tourism at its best in the barangay level, an opportune time for us to showcase our local talents, our hospitality and how tourism-oriented we are in Barangay Granada,” Barangay Captain Alfredo Talimodao Jr. said.
The Pasigabong Festival which topped the celebration allowed local folk to participate in the street-dance and arena competition including other activities that made this year’s celebration enjoyable and meaningful.
This year’s theme, “Maintain inner strength and optimism towards continuous development,” comes very alive in Barangay Granada.
“Barangay Granada is known as the home of the 2015 grand champion in MassKara street dance and arena competition where such feat displayed the best and colorful masks and festival costumes combined with harmonious and graceful dance moves of our MassKara dancers have been proven best in many instances and have in fact gained international recognition citing their participation in some prestigious festivals abroad,” Talimodao said.
“This is a mark that we want to sustain and by holding events like this will give our people the chance to hone their skills and ability which can also help promote barangay-based tourism,” he said.
Talimodao is truly grateful for the untiring support of the people who helped sustained the success of the local festival.
“Our happiness lies in the happiness of our people. We all have the reason to celebrate our Charter Day because we have so much to be thankful for to the Almighty God who continuously pours His blessing to our barangay and to our residents. Barangay Granada is an ideal place for peace-loving citizens. We give all our praises and honor to the Lord Almighty who keeps our community and people well,” he said.

Meanwhile, barangay secretary Rose Cuaycong said the winners for this year’s Pasigabong Festival street dance and arena competition are contingents from Hacienda Carmen, which are a back-to-back champion; Emiliano Lizares National High School, first runner-up; Purok Balabag, second runner-up; Asuncion L. Lizares Elementary School, third runner-up; Mirasol/Rosario Sul, forth runner-up and Rosario-Norte, fifth runner-up.
For special awards, Hacienda Carmen was won best in costume, best in street dance, best in arena dance competition and best in choreography while Purok Balabag won best in headdress.
