Gumban to submit list of 10 cops linked to drugs

POLICE Regional Office Director Renato Gumban said Sunday, October 9, he will personally submit to Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald dela Rosa Tuesday, October 11, the list of 10 policemen in Negros Island Region suspected as drug protectors.

Gumban said he will go to Manila Tuesday to attend a conference at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame.

The 10 policemen were consistently mentioned in the drug lists released to the media a few weeks ago.

These are police commissioned officers (PCOs), with ranks ranging from Inspector to Chief Inspector. They are being eyed to be transferred to the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao upon Gumban’s recommendation to Dela Rosa for their relief.

While the regional office is conducting validation, Gumban said more than 10 policemen are also being eyed for relief or transfer, following their poor performance in the anti-drug campaign.

They have been in Negros Island for quite some time but they still cannot eradicate the problem of illegal drugs, Gumban said.

He added the eradication of illegal drugs is one of the priorities of the police especially in the wake of the nationwide call of the government to totally stop drug-related cases in the country.
