A POLICEMAN was killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen near a Chinese cemetery, the police said Monday.
Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the victim as Police Officer 3 Michael Tan, 39, a warrant server of the Zamboanga City Police Station 7.
Galvez disclosed the incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. Monday along Veterans Avenue in the village of Camino Nuevo.
She said that initial investigation showed Tan was driving home to the village of Zone IV when repeatedly shot by one of two men on a motorcycle. The suspects was tailing the victim upon reaching the vicinity of the Chinese cemetery.
She said Tan sustained 10 gunshot wounds. He did not reach the hospital alive.
Police said investigation is ongoing to determine the motive of the shooting and identify and arrest the suspects behind the incident.
Tan was previously assigned with the Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) of the Police Station 7. (VoxPop Philippines)
