GOVERNOR Yevgeny Emano on Thursday, March 16, said he wants Misamis Oriental to be known as “herbal province” and its people to live longer, healthier lives.
Emano made the pronouncements after some Korean investors on Thursday showed their intent to put up a facility that will manufacture herbal medicines in the province.
“Imagine if we will be declared as herbal province in the country, tourists from all walks of life will be coming to the province and it will help the province especially the farmers,” Emano said.
The governor said the Korean businessmen will first be making a study on the possible venture but said the Koreans are initially eyeing putting up a manufacturing plant at the Phividec industrial estate in Tagoloan town.
Emano said if the venture pushes through, this will benefit the people of the province through labor and employment.
“Para ni sa kaayuhan sa panglawas sa katawhan and also opportunity kay nakapangutana man sila ngano sige ta palit sa synthetic nga tambal nga pwede man daw gikan sa microorganisms or herbal (This is for the physiological welfare of the people and also an opportunity as they were wondering why people always buy synthetic medicines when they can get herbal medicines),” Emano added.
The Korean investors, through the PhilKorea Association for Trade and Commerce, turned-over 51 boxes containing medicines.
The said medicines will be distributed to the eight hospitals in the province.
Emano said the Korean businessmen promised to donate more medical assistance some time soon.
He added he will submit report and lists of people who benefited the medicines to show transparency to the Korean donors.
The association's vice chairman for projects lawyer Simon Baek said this is the first time the group will venture in Misamis Oriental with the aim of making the people in the province healthy.
The capitol and the association also discussed the future plans and endeavors for the development and economic growth of the province.
