HACIENDA Gaston came hard with softball on Sunday defying the scorching heat at Hacienda Lourdes Ballpark in Manapla and a 15-0 win in the ongoing Negros First Governor Alfredo Marañon Inter-Hacienda Softball League.
The Gaston batters controlled the game and did not give Hacienda Dapdap a chance to score ending a quick game via mercy rule at the end of third inning.
In the other match, Dos Hermanos outran Hacienda Guinolayan, 13-5, and suffered its second loss after Cuaycong beat them in the opener 15-8 blast.
Cadiz Sluggers also made it into the winning column with a 5-2 victory over Punta Salong in the league considered a first in Negros Occidental.
Former town Mayor Manolet Escalante, one of the initiators of the tournament, said the sports event is an opportunity to strengthen the sports which has given honor to the province for several decades.
“With the help of other local chief executives in the province, this event will eventually get bigger and become a province-wide undertaking in the future,” he said.
Aside from this softball park, Escalante is also converting part of their idle land into a football field.
“We have to provide a venue for sports development in our town for our constituents. We also need these facilities to implement more programs to fight drugs, which is the main focus of the government,” he added. (HGD)
