A TOTAL of 7,428 health consultations from the 17,720 evacuees of the Marawi crisis were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) as of Friday, June 16.
DOH Secretary Paulyn Jean Ubial, in an interview, said the record came from all the 83 evacuation centers in Iligan City, Cagayan de Oro City, Lanaodel Sur, and Lanao del Norte yesterday morning.
She said diseases recorded in the consultations were mostly upper respiratory tract infection, hypertension, skin infections, and diarrhea.
She also said that 33 percent of the consultations were children having fever and diarrhea due to the lack of clean water supply in evacuation centers. Yet, there were no recorded death of children so far.
"We have already provided P25 million to each public hospital in Iligan City and Cagayan de Oro City to accommodate all medical needs of the evacuees from Marawi City," Ubial said.
The evacuation centers, she added, have five to 10 nurses deployed to ensure the health of the evacuees. Doctors also visit the evacuation centers daily to check the health status and provide medical assistance to the evacuees.
Ubial said the evacuees will be free from medical and hospital fees as it will be covered by PhilHealth and DOH.
She said that evacuees no longer have to present identification cards, birth certificates, or MDR forms upon admission to hospitals.
