THE City Health Office (CHO) turned over Wednesday, September 28, about 150 bags of larvicidal powder Kitikitix to 61 barangays in rites held at the Bacolod Government Center.
Dr. Ma. Carmela Gensoli, city health officer, said each barangay received two to three bags of larvicides to be used to address the dengue cases in their respective areas.
Most affected areas like barangays Taculing, Villamonte, Mansilingan, Estefania, Bata, Alijis, Singcang-Airport, Mandalagan, Tangub, Barangay 37; and Barangay 35 received three bags of larvicidal power each.
Gensoli said the barangay officials were instructed on how to use the substance so they can destroy the mosquito breeding areas.
The larvicidal powder will be poured on stagnant waters in canals, drainage systems, among others, she added.
The City Government earlier approved an P11-million budget to purchase equipment to address the dengue cases in the city.
Goldwyn Nifras, chairman of Bids and Awards Committee, said the larvicidal powder worth P9 million was purchased from supplier MYKL Trading Inc.
The remaining P2 million will be used for the procurement of fogging machines.
From January 1 to September 28 this year, Bacolod recorded a total of 1,434 dengue cases, with 12 fatalities, figures of the CHO showed.
