THE Department of Health (DOH)-Davao issued an advisory against the high risk of purchasing toys that contain toxic chemicals like lead.
DOH Assistant Secretary of Health for Mindanao Cluster and Regional Director Abdullah Dumama Jr. appealed to the public Monday, December 19, during the weekly press conference at SM City to be careful in selecting toys and always consider safety factors when buying.
He urged the citizens to always look for the labels on the packaging and observe the precautions to guarantee that it is safe and that the children's health are not compromised.
"Ensure to shop wisely for toys to give as gifts this holiday season. Watch out for toys that may contain harmful chemicals such as lead,” he said.
Dumama added that toys must be age appropriate and suitable for the children who will be receiving.
Although toys may seem safe, but if it is given to kids who are too young for the certain toy to play or handle, it can possibly trigger untoward incidents.
Thus, DOH officials told the consumers to check on the warning to avoid toy-related incidents.
“We have to make sure the toys that kids are playing are safe and harmless and have no lead content or mababa yong (low) lead content,” he said.
