HEART Evangelista turned emotional when she bid goodbye to "second mother" Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago.
In her eulogy during the necrological service for Santiago at Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cubao, Quezon City on Saturday afternoon, the actress remembered her "fairy godmother, protector, hero and best friend."
Evangelista said she is grateful to have known someone who made her feel that like she's the "child of the universe."
"You made me feel like the world was just waiting for me to spread my wings and make my dreams come true. You made me feel how special I was and I was indeed a child of the universe, as you would always say."
The actress also thanked Santiago for giving her time to be with her even though she was already suffering from lung cancer.
"You were ever so generous of your time and my heart to me, everybody wanted to be with you and yet you have me so much of your borrowed time."
Evangelista said it may be hard to let go, but she's comforted by the idea that they will see each other again.
"And though it was probably hard for you to let go, now I understand. Because now that it's my turn to let go, it's so hard. I do not want to, but I know I have to. I take comfort in knowing that I will see you again."
"I will forever be grateful for the love you made me feel. Thank you so much. For now, I shall say goodbye and with a sad smile, I will say, until we meet again."
Santiago passed away on Thursday after her two-year battle with lung cancer.
She was 71. (Sunnex)
