ABOITIZ Power-Hedcor engineers and employees are now conducting much needed repairs to their Sabangan hydro tapping plant that was bombed by rebel groups.
Hedcor Senior Vice President Chris Faelnar said "The 14-megawatt tapping point of Sabangan hydropower plant was bombed by lawless elements. As a result, the hydro plant is not able to dispatch much needed power and support our host communities".
Members of the Leonardo Pacsi Command of the New People's Army (NPA) operating in Monatnosa owned the attack.
VoxPop tried but failed to get the updates from the Police Regional Office through Information Officer Police Chief Inspector Carol Lacuata.
He reiterated the disgust of Hedcor for the attack that resulted to the curtailment of power supply and the hampering the development in the province.
Faelnar said: "Our teams are on a 24-7 working detail to bring the hydro plant online to provide power to our customers and support our communities."
The NPA alleged that the local government of Sabangan earlier requested Hedcor for assistance in developing their local water resources to build a mini-hydro under the build-operate-transfer scheme of the reactionary government in the year 1989.
In a statement, the rebels said Hedcor took advantage of this supported by the Electric Power Industry Reform Act and the Renewable Energy Act of 2008 which opened the natural energy resources for profitable business favoring independent power producers, said the statement.
Faelnar has yet to comment on the allegations of the rebel group.
