THE operations of the National Kidney Transplant Institute (NKTI) were interrupted Tuesday morning due to a gas leak from its Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine.
Dr. Joseph Jaro, NKTI cardiovascular laboratory head, said helium suddenly spewed out of the MRI machine while staffs were conducting preventive maintenance.
The hospital made a call to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Quezon City for response.
Jaro said patients near the area of the gas leak were immediately evacuated.
The leak was contained around 10:26 a.m.
"Hindi siya toxic gas like monoxide, but it can cause dizziness, but there is no cause for alarm," said Jaro.
The NKTI continued its normal operation after the incident. (VoxPop Philippines)
