IN CHINESE tradition, the New Year falls on the first full moon before the Spring Festival in China. This year, the festive date falls on January 28 where Chinese communities all over the country put everything in place in welcoming another year with lined up traditional activities.
This year is the Chinese Year of the Fire Rooster. Feng Shui experts and enthusiasts are keen on determining the rituals and charms attached to this sign. “Always higher, always going on” is the motto of the rooster and experts say that the people's year will revolve around this.
The Fire Rooster is the tenth sign in the Chinese zodiac. In general reading, Feng Shui experts say in this year, people will experience some of the characteristics of the bird like ambition, pride, the desire to be admired, punctuality, courage, passion and a well-developed disposition for love and seduction. In addition, during the year, people will have an increase in enthusiasm, perseverance and auto-control.
According to experts, we have to maintain our spirit’s flexibility, because under the influence of this sign which is very conservative, according to Chinese people, we risk being inflexible and may refuse changing ideas or life strategies, even though they may be inappropriate for the future.
However, when asked about the Feng Shui and its effects and implications to our lives, some prominent Filipino-Chinese citizens in Cagayan de Oro said while they believe in the Chinese zodiac and the wisdom of the art of Feng Shui, still one must make sure to chip in the extra effort in all of life's endeavors.
Businessman Juan Sia, who has been doing business in Cagayan de Oro City for more than 40 years, said that while in their home, Feng Shui is still being practiced; one thing that he wants to share about success is the ability to discern one's self. According to him, a person should know well his strengths and weaknesses because those are the keys to achieving success.
“We must remember that the Chinese zodiac and the Feng Shui only act as a guide for us. But then, we must also always understand that if we take these things literally, it might be catastrophic for us. The best thing is understand one's abilities and make actions that will be beneficial to one's self,” Sia said.
