THE use of backpacks, baseball caps, and hooded jackets will be prohibited during the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival celebration from October 1 to 12.
This, as Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar on Friday, September 15, issued Executive Order No. 294-2017, which directs the prohibition of backpacks, baseball caps, and hooded jackets in identified Hermosa Festival activities.
The move is part of the stringent security measures to be adopted by the local government for the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival, held every October.
The Zamboanga Hermosa Festival draws large crowds and visitors include foreigners.
The Festival’s highlight is the feast day on October 12 of Our Lady of the Pillar, the most revered saint of Zamboanga City.
Also to be prohibited are the parking of motorcycles and four-wheel vehicles in certain streets where major Hermosa festival activities are to be held.
The prohibition will take effect in the central business district, specifically: the whole stretch of R.T. Lim Boulevard for the Smoke Out Zamboanga – Grilled Food Fiesta and Zamboanga Grand Midnight Sale from September 30 to October 11; N.S. Valderrosa Street to Fort Pilar Shrine including Paseo del Mar for the Novena Masses from October 3 to 11, and; whole stretch of R.T. Lim Rotonda to San Jose corner Alejo Alvarez Street, going straight to Varela Street, for the Regatta de Zamboanga on October 8 at 7 a.m. (VoxPop Philippines)
