WITH our unpredictable President concerning his daily pronouncements of his plan for actions of change of our society and make them safe all the time; this is puzzling. Most alarming to me and for sure most of our citizens is his alliance with President Putin of Russia to use nuclear power energy to run our industries and our domestic activities. Does the President know that many advanced countries in the world had stopped using nuclear power plants. The deadly event concerning the Chernovile nuclear power plant leakage and the more recent Fuchesima nuclear power reactor in Japan caused by an earthquake is not completely checked. It was discovered that the leakage of deadly waves had spread to the Pacific Ocean rendering the marine life and the water itself dangerous for human life which will eat or consume it.
Remember the atomic bomb dropped with explosions in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan which ended World War 11? It was a holocaust. Numberless peoples died. These were mute evidences of the alpha, beta, gamma deadly waves which hit them. An atomic bomb has uncontrolled deadly explosions. The nuclear plants have controlled and measured interactions initiated by a fuel element. Trouble of leakage happens when the controlled chain reactions is disturbed.
The stalled Nuclear Atomic Reactor Plant in Bataan is an unsuccessful attempt to use this form of energy. There was tremendous amount of capital expenses to build it, marked with corruption in the financing aspect. It was discovered also that the location is in the path of a fault line that can cause earthquakes. All the years it was stalled, a group of salaried officials held office in the edifice to avoid vandalism. This time, environmentalists, where I belonged, rallied to abandon the plant. It was a "white elephant." Lessons have been learned. And now the President wants to build and use this source of energy. Let us act now before it is too late.
Let us harness the much safer, without impurities of carbon residue, abundant, available all the time, free and renewable. Topmost is solar energy. Energy from the sun has all the qualities mentioned above. The initial expense in installing solar panels, control centers, and maintenance are small. Senator Zubiri had established a prototype of a huge solar powered plant in Bukidnon.. My son had installed four solar panels on our roof with the control inside our house. We use it when Meralco has brownout. The energy can be stored in batteries when it is raining or during nighttime. Other sources of energy can be harnessed from hydroelectric plant, hydrothermal plant, biogas generator from waste materials.
Another aspect of the President's actions which needs scrutiny is the done deal of the building of a gigantic plan to establish a railway transit traversing from end to end of the country. It will be an aid, in reality a loan, to be paid by our tax money. The contract also stipulates that Chinese laborers will build it. With this we deprive our own laborers of earnings from the project. In my research I read about a western country having exactly like this deal with China. At the middle of the construction troubles started and the job was discontinued. The helpless country is now paying the loan until paid in full. Lastly, it is like a broken record already. The way China is constructing infrastructures all over the West Philippine Seas is an unsolved issue. The UNCLOS has decided that the Philippines is the rightful owner of this area but the Chinese did not respect this decision.
Why is our country getting into trouble with other nations who are so interested in it? By nature the Philippines is one of the richest countries in natural resources with its metallic deposits, minerals, soils and natural gas deposits. Lately it was discovered that chromium, a most expensive metal, is found in abundance here. We are very rich in marine flora and fauna. Military wise we are the doorway from the Pacific to the Western Oceans. Remember the World War 11 incident. Let us not endanger our patrimony and sovereignty of our beloved Philippines, the Pearl of the Orient Seas. We fight for this through peaceful means.
